We have now come to the end of another year delivering cards to every house in the village, to assure people of our prayers, so this month we will be praying for
ALL who live and work in Downton.
Each month we have been to a few roads or streets in the parish. We have then brought the needs of the people living and working there to God in prayer through our regular Sunday worship and at a monthly prayer meeting. We’re very grateful for the feedback we receive and for the people who have asked us to pray, sometimes about particular problems, sometimes for thanksgivings and celebrations.
We are about to start again at the beginning, so please look out for your card. Do consider whether there is anything you would like to ask us to pray for. You don’t have to wait until it’s ‘your turn’, though. You can let us know needs for prayer at any time by leaving a request on the prayer tree in church, by calling The Vicarage phone (01725 510326) or by sending an email to info@stlaurencedownton.co.uk.

St Laurence’s Larder at the Cuckoo Fair 2018

Thank you to everyone who played a part in yet another successful day at St Laurence’s Larder at the Cuckoo Fair. We raised a wonderful sum which will go towards the upkeep of our beautiful but expensive to maintain parish church. We will also, as always, be donating 10% of the profits to the Cuckoo Fair Committee to help continue their excellent work.

It was a real team effort, with helpers from the congregation and the wider village as well as friends and family, some visiting from many miles away. WELL DONE and THANK YOU to everyone who:

made, transported or provided food and flower arrangements
donated money
helped with getting the hall ready and clearing up at the end
prepared and served food and drink, cleared tables, washed and dried up and collected money

The quality of the donated food was excellent as always – and we had lots of praise from visitors to the Larder. Indeed, thanks must also go to our valued customers, many of whom come back to us year after year!
It may have been hard work, but it was also a very happy day of Christian fellowship and if you were not there you really did miss out – but there is always next year!

Ken Parsons - Churchwarden

At our Annual Meeting on 15th April, after many years of devoted service, Ken Parsons stood down as Churchwarden for St Laurence Church. Ken has been our Churchwarden since 2010, and in that time has performed an exemplary service, supported always by his wife Jo.
Ken has worked tirelessly for St Laurence, going far beyond what a Churchwarden is called to do. In particular, Ken saw us through the planning, design, construction and completion of the wonderful new facilities as the back of Church – facilities that have greatly enhanced our use of our building.
Ken has also been a great support and encouragement to me as Team Rector, both personally and in my ministry here.
Although he is stepping down as Churchwarden, Ken continues to give of his time and energy to the Church as a Deputy Churchwarden.
We are all extremely grateful for all that Ken has done over these past 8 years. Thank you, Ken.
